Sustainability performance factsheet 2009
Wessanen has established a strong reputation for its commitment to the principles of sustainability. We will continue to honour this commitment as we pursue our objectives within Europe’s organic marketplace.

The alteration in strategic direction during 2009 has made a significant difference to the Company’s structure. By the end of the year, half of the Group’s revenues had been divested, leaving Wessanen Europe to take up its new challenge of focusing on the European organic food market.
In our view, organic food and sustainability are interdependent, because they are based on adherence to many of the same principles. Effectively, this makes sustainability an even more integral part of our business.

For this reason, we see no benefit in publishing a separate Sustainability Report. We are continuing to gather sustainability data about our activities, just as we have done in the past. This information will now be integrated within the reporting process that leads to the publication of the Annual Report. Going forward, the website will be the primary communication channel for information on our environmental and social performance.
This will enable us to update this on a regular basis data via sustainability performance factsheets.

Scope and process
Scope of the data in this sustainability performance factsheet is the continuing operations (see the Annual Report for an explanation). The data covers the year 2009. The operating companies have
been asked to fill in a questionnaire concentrating on general, environmental and social indicators.
This questionnaire was developed and refined over the last years under the auspices of our inhouse Quality Team. Quantitative data was gathered by each site, and consolidated and validated
centrally.

We have included our sustainability reporting system in our ISO systems and continuously work on further automating our data gathering and analysis system. All our operating companies are
required to state whether figures for each indicator are estimated or calculated. Of the following data, 60% is measured.

Wessanen reports according to the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines (GRI, G3). The G3 guidelines have different application levels. We conform to application level C.
For further details on the G3 guidelines, please refer to the GRI content table on our website.
